This module is something V2 is missing, the seperation of male/female avatars.

By default male and female all get the default no image avatar with this mod your users will be assigned a male or female avatar at sign up depending on what sex they choose.

Comes complete with blue and pink male/female avatars and a database update to change all the current members you have to show male/female avatars too.
